Originally from Bryan, Texas, Dr Cheri Honnas followed in her veterinarian father’s footsteps, studying at Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, before moving into the field. Dr. Honnas later returned to Texas A&M for her residency before she began working overnights at Lakeway Veterinary where she learned key information about what it means to be an emergency vet.

Dr. Gianfranco (Johnny) Spellman obtained both his Bachelor of Science and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees from Texas A&M University. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Spellman served in the United States Army. Upon completion of his service in the Army, Dr. Spellman moved to Austin and first opened the doors to the North Lamar Veterinary Clinic in 1971.

Dr. Spencer has always known she wanted to be a veterinarian ever since she was a kid. Growing up, her house had no shortage of pets that she convinced her parents to adopt: birds, turtles, fish, snakes, lizards, dogs, cats… you name it, she had them! She received a bachelor’s degree in animal science at the University of Connecticut. She graduated from veterinary school at the University of Florida and has developed a love of urgent care, especially since moving to Austin. She realizes the hardships that most pet parents face when their fur babies have an illness that needs to be seen, and unfortunately, their primary vet is either closed or not able to take them in that day. She is here for you and your pet when you need it most. When she is not working as a veterinarian, Dr. Spencer loves hiking with her rescue dog, Madison. She also loves paddleboarding on the beautiful lakes in Austin, playing golf, as well as sampling foods from all the great restaurants Austin has to offer.

Dr. Helen Rudnick grew up in Jupiter, Florida, where she secured her first veterinary job in a local kennel. She quickly started training to perform Veterinary Assistant and Technician work. After high school, she headed to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida, studying Chemistry and Anthropology while working in a nearby vet clinic.

Dr. Lott was born in Louisiana, and spent the first half of her childhood there before moving to Katy, Texas, so she claims both Louisianan and Texan heritage. She has always loved animals and science and knew from a young age taking care of animals was her calling. She earned her undergraduate degree at Baylor University before going on to Texas A&M for vet school.

Dr. Jean Heppner joined North Austin Animal Hospital in February 2014. A Michigan native, she now lives in Austin. Dr. Heppner attended Oakland University for undergraduate studies before earning a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University 2014.

Dr. Kohl Kemnitz joined the Hill Country team in 2014. A native of Austin, Dr. Kemnitz attended Texas A&M University for his undergraduate degree in animal science and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, where he graduated cum laude in 2014. Dr. Kemnitz is a member of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and his professional interests include dentistry, dermatology, internal medicine, and general veterinary medicine.

Dr. Robert Pieratt (aka Dr. Rob) was born and raised in Austin, Texas and grew up exploring the lakes and hills of this beautiful city. Dr. Pieratt graduated with a bachelors in Animal Science from Colorado State University in 2008 and earned his DVM from Oklahoma State University in 2014. Dr. Pieratt’s veterinary interests include preventative medicine, pain management and soft tissue surgery.

As a career emergency veterinarian since 2003, Dr. Bessler has a passion for helping people and their pets when they need it most. His intense focus on families made him realize emergency care was broken and wasn’t working for anyone. Dr. Bessler took a holistic view of the ER experience, from start to finish, and from every angle, to make it better.

Dr. Brad Singleton is from southwest Louisiana originally, and attended Louisiana State University for both undergraduate studies and to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he worked for 2 years in a busy exotic and small animal practice in Las Vegas, Nevada, before deciding Austin was the best place to call home.

Dr. Gregg Farmer grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and attended the University of Georgia, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1984 and his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1986. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1990 from the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Byron Hassell is a Clearwater native who attended the University of Tennessee, where he earned his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He has a special interest in dermatology, internal medicine, soft tissue, and orthopedic surgery.

Dr. Toth graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1982 and started his veterinary career in Texas in 1984.
